{"id":6338,"date":"2016-10-19T00:22:21","date_gmt":"2016-10-19T07:22:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spijue.wpengine.com\/news\/gofundme-created-for-19-year-old-shooting-victim\/"},"modified":"2016-10-19T00:22:21","modified_gmt":"2016-10-19T07:22:21","slug":"gofundme-created-for-19-year-old-shooting-victim","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.juneauempire.com\/news\/gofundme-created-for-19-year-old-shooting-victim\/","title":{"rendered":"GoFundMe created for 19-year-old shooting victim"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Juneau woman has started <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gofundme.com\/fundraiser-for-geneva-rain-2us588k4?ssid=775465193&amp;pos=1\" target=\"_blank\">a GoFundMe campaign<\/a> for a teen who survived a gunshot to the head late last week.<\/p>\n<p>Shortly before noon Friday, Geneva Anowlic-Okikton, 19, was shot in the head after somebody fired a gun through the second-story floor of the Coho Apartments unit in which she lives. The bullet went through the floor where it struck Anowlic-Okikton, according to the Juneau Police Department, which is still investigating the shooting.<\/p>\n<p>Anowlic-Okikton is currently in critical condition in the intensive-care unit of the Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage, a hospital spokesperson told the Empire Tuesday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>Now a friend is raising money to cover Anowlic-Okikton\u2019s medical expenses using GoFundMe.<\/p>\n<p>[<a href=\"http:\/\/juneauempire.com\/local\/2016-10-14\/juneau-police-seek-two-connection-shooting\" target=\"_blank\">Police question 2 people connected to shooting<\/a>]<\/p>\n<p>Late Monday night, DeAna Marie started the campaign called \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gofundme.com\/fundraiser-for-geneva-rain-2us588k4?ssid=775465193&amp;pos=1\" target=\"_blank\">Fundraiser for Geneva Rain.<\/a>\u201d which is the name Anowlic-Okikton goes by on Facebook. So far, 16 people have contributed $175 toward Marie\u2019s $5,000 goal.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to covering Anowlic-Okikton\u2019s medical bills, contributions to the GoFundMe campaign will supposedly also cover travel fare for Anowlic-Okikton\u2019s&amp;nbsp;fianc\u00e9, Michael Flores, to visit her in Anchorage.<\/p>\n<p>In the fundraiser description, Marie wrote that Flores wasn\u2019t initially able to travel with his fianc\u00e9 because police held him for questioning.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis was an added devastation at the time,\u201d the GoFundMe page reads. \u201cThey have been through so much the five years they have been together and love each other so dearly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to Marie\u2019s short description, doctors said that Anowlic-Okikton had a 10 percent chance of living when she arrived at the hospital. Marie didn\u2019t specify whether those were doctors at Bartlett Regional Hospital, where Anowlic-Okikton was taken first, or the ANMC, where she was later medevaced.<\/p>\n<p>She is now \u201cresponsive and moving around a little bit,\u201d Marie wrote. The hospital spokesperson could only confirm that Anowlic-Okikton is in critical condition.<\/p>\n<p>So far, the GoFundMe page has been shared on social media 191 times.<\/p>\n<p>Police have interviewed everybody who was in the residence at the time of the shooting. They have not released any information regarding who fired the bullet that struck Anowlic-Okikton.
