{"id":6355,"date":"2016-10-15T22:27:13","date_gmt":"2016-10-16T05:27:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spijue.wpengine.com\/news\/powdery-proof-winter-is-coming\/"},"modified":"2016-10-15T22:27:13","modified_gmt":"2016-10-16T05:27:13","slug":"powdery-proof-winter-is-coming","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.juneauempire.com\/news\/powdery-proof-winter-is-coming\/","title":{"rendered":"Powdery proof: Winter is coming"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Some Juneau residents were greeted Saturday morning with powdery proof that winter is indeed coming.<\/p>\n<p>The downtown area experienced a light dusting of snow, which despite being a few weeks earlier than usual is still a few weeks too late to be a record.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cActually it is fairly early\u201d to see snow in Juneau, David Levin, a meteorologist at NOAA\u2019s National Weather Service facility in Juneau, told the Empire on Saturday. \u201cWe do pick up traces here and there in October, but it looks like the record snowfall for first 15 days of the month is 2 inches (at the airport), so it\u2019s not unheard of.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The earliest measurable snowfall in Juneau was Oct. 2, 1974, which was measured near the Juneau International Airport.<\/p>\n<p>Levin said his office hasn\u2019t yet received an official measurement for Saturday\u2019s snowfall. That figure will likely be received Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>NWS issued a hazardous weather conditions bulletin Saturday warning that Southeast Alaska could see up to 6 inches of snow total this week, but constant rain would likely melt it all and prevent accumulation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Some Juneau residents were greeted Saturday morning with powdery proof that winter is indeed coming.
