{"id":63579,"date":"2020-09-15T22:30:00","date_gmt":"2020-09-16T06:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.juneauempire.com\/news\/jpd-investigates-rash-of-thefts-near-harbors\/"},"modified":"2020-09-15T22:30:00","modified_gmt":"2020-09-16T06:30:00","slug":"jpd-investigates-rash-of-thefts-near-harbors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.juneauempire.com\/news\/jpd-investigates-rash-of-thefts-near-harbors\/","title":{"rendered":"JPD investigates rash of thefts near harbors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Juneau Police Department is recommending that users of Juneau&rsquo;s harbors take extra care to secure their gear after a <a href=\"https:\/\/juneau.org\/police\/jpd-psa-individual-view\/entry\/68183\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">generator was reported stolen<\/a> on Aug. 10, 2020, said a JPD spokesperson.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;This theft is one of several reported in the areas of the Juneau Docks and Harbors over the past several months,&rdquo; said Lt. Krag Campbell in a news release. &ldquo;Patrons of the harbors are reminded to store items such as fishing gear, crab pots, jerry jugs, and generators in locked compartments when possible. Other items which can&rsquo;t be stowed can be locked to their vessel or removed from the boat when not in use.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The harbors themselves are also working to harden their security, said Juneau harbormaster Matt Creswell in a recent interview, including adding more cameras starting with harbors which have the highest rate of thefts reported.<\/p>\n<p>Campbell recommended that anyone with information about the thefts to submit the information anonymously to the <a href=\"http:\/\/juneaucrimeline.com\/sitemenu.aspx?ID=697&#038;\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Juneau Crime Line online<\/a> or by calling them at 523-7700, or JPD at 586-0600.
