More than one-fifth of Juneauites registered to vote have cast ballots in the City and Borough of Juneau Municipal Election as of Friday, the city announced.<\/p>\n

So far, just over 23% of voters’ ballots have returned, the city said in a news release. That’s a roughly 12% jump from last <\/a>week<\/a>, and it puts voter turnout about 8% shy of where it was last year. Voter turnout was 31.4% in 2019 and 35.5% in 2018. The 2018 election featured a mayoral race.<\/p>\n

Voters can still mail and drop off ballots for the city’s vote-by-mail election through Tuesday, Oct. 6.<\/p>\n

So far, the city has received 6,425 ballots, and that includes 2,679 ballots received by mail, 627 dropped off at the City Hall Vote Center, 1,013 ballots at the Mendenhall Valley Public Library Vote Center, 968 at the Douglas Library and Fire Hall ballot drop Box, 1,108 ballots at the Don D. Statter Harbor ballot drop box and 30 ballots at the City Clerk’s Office.<\/p>\n

While there is still time to vote, the city said regular polling place locations won’t be open on Tuesday. That means the following methods are ways to make sure your vote is counted:<\/p>\n

• Mail your ballot through the U.S. Postal Service with a 55 cent or forever stamp; or ​<\/p>\n

• Place your ballot in a Secure Ballot Drop Box at the Douglas Library or the Statter Harbor boat launch parking lot until 8 p.m. on Oct. 6; no stamp required; or<\/p>\n

• Take your ballot to a Juneau Vote Center at City Hall or the Mendenhall Valley Public Library; no stamp required. Voters who need to obtain a ballot at the vote center, should bring ID, like a State of Alaska voter card, an Alaska driver’s license or state ID card, a military ID card, a passport, a hunting or fishing license or other current or valid photo identification.<\/p>\n
