City and Borough of Juneau reported on Thursday its largest single-day increase in COVID-19 cases in over a week.<\/p>\n

The city’s emergency operations center announced eight new cases. Two of the cases were reported on Wednesday and six were reported on Thursday, the city said in a news release. The last time the city reported more than five new cases for a single day was Sept. 25 when seven new cases were reported.<\/p>\n

Public Health attributes one of the cases reported on Wednesday to close contact with a known case. All other cases are under investigation, according to the city. Two of the people who tested positive for COVID-19 are at Lemon Creek Correctional Center, according to the city. All known active cases are isolating.<\/p>\n

So far, at least six people recently diagnosed with COVID-19 are among Juneau’s vulnerable populations, according to the city. The emergency operations center is conducting regular testing of people in vulnerable populations at various emergency housing facilities.<\/p>\n

Cumulatively, 317 Juneau residents have tested positive for COVID-19 since March, according to the city, and 101 nonresidents have tested positive.<\/p>\n

Combined, there are 30 active cases in Juneau and 386 people have recovered, according to the city.<\/p>\n

Statewide, the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services reports 129 new people with COVID-19 — 123 are residents and six are nonresidents. The state reported a new death today, bringing the total number of deaths to 60.<\/p>\n

The person who died was an Anchorage woman in her 70s, according to the state. <\/p>\n

Alaska has had 9,005 cumulative resident cases of COVID-19 and a total of 991 nonresidents, according to state data.<\/p>\n
