Don Young, R-Alaska, confirmed via Twitter on Thursday that he had tested positive for the coronavirus.<\/p>\n<p>The 87-year-old Young recently ran for reelection to the position of state representative for Alaska, a position he has held uninterrupted for 47 years. Young <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/alaska-don-young-elections-ff4b8945eb764ea8b2f5cd28506e916b\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">won reelection Wednesday <\/a>over repeat challenger Alyse Galvin, according to the Associated Press.<\/p>\n<p>In the tweet announcing he had tested positive for COVID-19, Young said he is feeling strong and working from home in Alaska.<\/p>\n<p>Gov. Mike Dunleavy, who activated Alaska&rsquo;s emergency alerts system for cell phones Thursday morning to send Alaskans a YouTube video urging state residents to wear masks and observe mitigation strategies as Alaska&rsquo;s health care workers are hit harder and harder by the coronavirus, wished Young well.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I just learned that @repdonyoung has tested positive for #COVID19,&rdquo; Dunleavy said in a tweet. &ldquo;Please join Rose &#038; I in praying for his health &#038; a swift recovery. Alaska is with you Don!&rdquo;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I have tested positive for COVID-19. I am feeling strong, following proper protocols, working from home in Alaska, and ask for privacy at this time. May God Bless Alaska.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Rep.
