When the new principals arrive at Sayéik: Gastineau Community School and Floyd Dryden Middle School, they won’t need a building tour.<\/p>\n

In the middle of an unprecedented school year, two interim principals have been named to their positions permanently.<\/p>\n

Stacy Diouf will remain in the top job at Sayéik: Gastineau Community School and Kristy Germain will stay on as the permanent administrator at Floyd Dryden Middle School.<\/p>\n

“We are very excited about this,” said Bridget Weiss during Tuesday evening’s Juneau School District Board of Education meeting. “We are thrilled to hire two local principals who have done a great job,” she added.<\/p>\n

Both Diouf and Germain are long-term district employees, former teachers in the district, and graduates of Juneau-Douglas High School: Yadaa.at Kalé. <\/p>\n

According to a news release issued by the district, Diouf joined the Juneau School District in 2001 and has served as the Student Services Coordinator at JDHS. Before that, she was a special education teacher and a special education support teacher. She mentored and trained teachers across the district. She has experience in Seattle Public Schools and at St. Luke’s School in Bronx, NY. She’s worked as an Education Specialist at the State of Alaska, developing a statewide training program for reading instruction., She holds a Bachelor of Education in Special Education from Gonzaga University and a Master of Special Education from the University of Oregon.<\/p>\n

“We are excited to have Stacy Diouf continue in the principal role,” said Weiss in a statement. “Her long-time leadership experience in the Juneau School District is an asset for the continued work at Sayéik: Gastineau. Her team-oriented approach and great listening skills have been appreciated during her tenure as the Interim Principal.”<\/p>\n

According to the same release, Germain joined the Juneau School District as a teacher at Floyd Dryden in 2003. Germain went on to teach at JDHS and became Assistant Principal at the school in 2013. She was Assistant Principal at Dzantik’i Heeni Middle School before her selection as the Interim Principal at Floyd Dryden last summer. Germain holds a Master of Educational Leadership and Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of Alaska Southeast. She has a Bachelor of Arts in History and a minor in Political Science from Albertson College of Idaho.<\/p>\n

“Kristy Germain has contributed much to the community of Juneau during her long tenure as an educator, both teacher, and administrator. Her support of Floyd Dryden during this pandemic has been solid and supportive. I look forward to her ongoing leadership and support of the Floyd Dryden staff, students, and families,” Weiss said in the same statement.<\/p>\n
