This next windstorm<\/p>\n

will blow the last leaves from my alder.<\/p>\n

My view of the inlet will no longer<\/p>\n

afford the perspective of a foreground<\/p>\n

and the little brown birds and<\/p>\n

squirrels and woodpeckers<\/p>\n

will not be able to chatter, nest and hide.<\/p>\n

A humpback rises hugely<\/p>\n

out of his first element<\/p>\n

and plunges back in a personal tide.<\/p>\n

Three coho lie lifeless on the picnic table<\/p>\n

ready for the knife.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Deep in the woods<\/p>\n

the ferns are not brown,<\/p>\n

but capture the autumn light<\/p>\n

as it is broken in the fall<\/p>\n

through the evergreen canopy.<\/p>\n

Osmotically, they gather into themselves<\/p>\n

the soft, cold light from the hours left<\/p>\n

between dawn and dusk<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

like long abandoned saints so old<\/p>\n

they have become a stonehenge<\/p>\n

made of faith in circadian rhythms<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

and glow with interior illumination.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n
