A Juneau man was arrested Tuesday afternoon following a several-hour standoff, according to a Juneau Police Department spokesperson. <\/p>\n
Benjamin Devin Parson, 21, was arrested in the 8400 block of Nugget Drive on a warrant for failing to report to Lemon Creek Correctional Center, said Juneau Police Department Lt. Krag Campbell in a news release.<\/p>\n
JPD officers arrived to serve the warrant at approximately 1.38 p.m., Campbell said. Officers had intelligence that Parson was in a van on a residential property. Police also had reason to believe that Parson might be in possession of a handgun, and that there might be a woman in the van with Parson, Campbell said. Firearms were not found during a search of the van.<\/p>\n
“Over the next couple of hours, officers attempted to communicate with Parson inside the van, but were unsuccessful,” Campbell said. “Additional law enforcement units, including Alaska State Troopers and a JPD crisis negotiator responded to the area to assist.”<\/p>\n
The area of Nugget Drive near the residence was blocked off for safety while the operation went on.<\/p>\n
Parson eventually began communicating, and soon after, Parson and the woman exited the van without incident. Parson was taken to LCCC.<\/p>\n
While searching the residence for Parson, JPD officers also found and arrested 34-year-old Scott Louis Whitely for several JPD warrants.<\/p>\n
