I am glad to hear that the Toxic-Free Children\u2019s Act (SB 111, HB 199)\u00a0received a hearing this week. This act would prevent the manufacture, sale and distribution of 10 toxic and unnecessary flame retardant chemicals in children\u2019s products and home furniture in Alaska.\u00a0<\/p>\n
These chemicals are a serious public health threat, are more toxic to children and do not even provide a fire safety benefit. <\/p>\n
Other states have enacted similar legislation to protect the health of their residents, and its time for Alaska to do the same. These toxins enter our homes and work places unnoticed, and this act would be a large step forward in making our homes and schools safer spaces for us to work and play. <\/p>\n
