Award-winning Juneau photographer Mark Kelley is the featured Fireside lecturer at Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center on Friday, Feb. 19 at 6:30 pm and 8 pm.<\/p>\n
In his Fireside Lecture, Kelley will describe the thinking process he uses when composing images that create a lasting memory in the eyes of beholders.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs a kid in Buffalo, New York, I always wondered what it would be like to encounter a whale,\u201d says Kelley. \u201cI moved north in 1974 and four years later graduated from the University of Alaska with a journalism degree.\u201d Some of Mark\u2019s most notable photos feature whales.<\/p>\n
After working as a photojournalist at the Juneau Empire for more than 13 years, Kelley pursued a full-time career in freelance photography and publishing in 1993.<\/p>\n
Kelley is well known for his Juneau and Southeast Alaska calendars and has sold upwards of a quarter million books featuring Alaska. He is an acclaimed Alaskan photographer with twelve book credits to his name plus numerous book and photography awards.<\/p>\n
The audience will have time for questions and answers.<\/p>\n
Fireside Lectures occur every Friday night during January, February and March at the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center, managed by the US Forest Service. There are two presentations: at 6:30 pm with a repeat at 8 pm. Lectures are free and open to the public. Doors open at 6 pm. Visitor center winter hours are 10-4 pm Friday-Sunday.
