Seeing the Yellow Star of David squeezes my heart,<\/p>\n
Stifles my breath.<\/p>\n
Some of my family were likely forced to wear<\/p>\n
The six-pointed star,<\/p>\n
“JUDE” stamped on it.<\/p>\n
“Likely” because those were the ones<\/p>\n
We never heard from again.<\/p>\n
The cloth stars, symbols of selection.<\/p>\n
The Jewish people selected<\/p>\n
By Hitler<\/p>\n
By others in power<\/p>\n
To bear the blame<\/p>\n
For hard times in Europe.<\/p>\n
Economy weakening.<\/p>\n
Jobs lessening.<\/p>\n
Citizens struggling.<\/p>\n
Those in power<\/p>\n
Point their finger away<\/p>\n
Toward the Jewish people.<\/p>\n
They are different.<\/p>\n
They have money.<\/p>\n
They are educated.<\/p>\n
They are the threat.<\/p>\n
Round them up.<\/p>\n
Kill them.<\/p>\n
Every one of them.<\/p>\n
First identify them.<\/p>\n
Make them wear the Yellow Star of David.<\/p>\n
Take their possessions.<\/p>\n
Take their dignity.<\/p>\n
Put them on trains.<\/p>\n
Herd them into concentration camps.<\/p>\n
March them into gas chambers.<\/p>\n
And so they did.<\/p>\n
Six million people were murdered.<\/p>\n
More than eight times all the people living in Alaska today!<\/p>\n
That’s what the Yellow Star of David means to me.<\/p>\n
