Investigators from the Fire Marshal\u2019s office are still at the scene tonight after a top floor apartment fire in downtown Juneau. <\/p>\n
According to online reports from Capital City Fire\/Rescue, two people inside the Channel View Apartments were transported to Bartlett Regional Hospital for an evaluation due to smoke inhalation. Personnel from CCFR were not immediately available to report how many people will be displaced as a result of the fire.<\/p>\n
Deputy Fire Marshal Sven Pearson, along with members of American Red Cross, were still at the scene in the 300 block of Gastineau Avenue after engines halted the flames.<\/p>\n
Pearson said his team did not have a picture yet of what caused the fire that began at approximately 5 p.m., but it does seem at the moment to have been contained to one unit on the fifth floor.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re just trying to see what happened, what we can make of it,\u201d Pearson said outside the complex.<\/p>\n
The apartment complex\u2019s entrance is also on the fifth floor, which opens onto Gastineau Avenue. Across the street from the complex sits the downtown Juneau Public Library. The complex houses 22 units and is a limited-income housing option managed by the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Southeast Alaska.<\/p>\n
