A Juneau man was found guilty of more than a dozen charges in a sexual assault case from 2019.<\/p>\n
Wilbur W. James Jr., 66, indicted and arrested in October 2019, was found guilty in a jury trial of 14 charges stemming from allegations of sex offenses.<\/p>\n
James was found guilty of felony second-degree sexual assault, second-degree sexual abuse of a minor, third-degree sexual assault, five counts of attempted indecent viewing\/photography of a minor, and six counts of attempted indecent viewing\/photography in a trial presided over by Superior Court Judge Daniel Schally.<\/p>\n
[Positive COVID test leads to canceled House floor session]<\/ins><\/a><\/p>\n The three felony charges James stands convicted of carry a minimum sentence of between 5 years 1 day and 15 years, and a maximum sentence of 99 years.<\/p>\n James was denied the request for house arrest and reduced bail, the Empire reported <\/a>previously<\/a>, with then-Assistant District Attorney Bailey Woolfstead, now an assistant attorney general, citing the danger to the women and children as a reason for arguing against any leniency toward James.<\/p>\n A number of victims came forward during the investigation, according to court documents. Investigating officers also found a number of indecent photos on James’ phone that he had attempted to delete, the Empire previously reported.<\/p>\n James claimed he was sleepwalking when the photos were taken during a 2019 bail hearing, the Empire previously reported.<\/p>\n James is currently held without bail, with a sentencing hearing scheduled for June 6, 2022.<\/p>\n • Contact reporter Michael S.
