{"id":90183,"date":"2022-08-11T22:30:00","date_gmt":"2022-08-12T06:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.juneauempire.com\/letters\/opinion-the-tourism-industry-must-be-held-accountable\/"},"modified":"2022-08-11T22:30:00","modified_gmt":"2022-08-12T06:30:00","slug":"opinion-the-tourism-industry-must-be-held-accountable","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.juneauempire.com\/letters\/opinion-the-tourism-industry-must-be-held-accountable\/","title":{"rendered":"Opinion: The tourism industry must be held accountable"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Is the local &ldquo;visitor industry&rsquo;&rdquo; in a coma, delusion or just arrogantly stupid?<\/p>\n<p>Is anyone else furious that cruise passengers with COVID were denied re-boarding to their ships , and put on planes and ferries to infect other travelers in Alaska.<\/p>\n<p>Does anyone else remember the &ldquo;visitor industry&rdquo; dumping millions of pounds of ship rubbish in our landfill that they know has a limited lifespan ?<\/p>\n<p>This &ldquo;industry,&rdquo; like other bloated and greedy hogs at the trough, fills the pockets of a few wealthy tour operators and shop owners.
