A Juneau man was arrested on drug-related charges, police say, after members of an anti-drug task force found 1,000 pills believed to contain fentanyl and 86 grams of methamphetamine in a suspicious package last week.<\/p>\n
On Friday, Anthony Lynn Byford, 46, of Juneau was arrested on two charges of second-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance, with one charge being a Class B felony and the other a Class C felony, according to Juneau Police Department.<\/p>\n
The arrest came after members of Southeast Alaska Cities Against Drugs task force last Thursday located a suspicious package being shipped to Juneau in the mail, according to police. After authorities obtained a warrant and searched the package, drugs with an estimated value of $49,000 —including round, blue pills believed to contain fentanyl —were discovered.<\/p>\n
Task force members delivered the package to its intended destination, a residence in the 4200 block of Ptarmigan Street, and later searched the residence, according to JPD. At that time, Byford fled on foot before being detained.<\/p>\n
During a search of the residence, task force members found additional unspecified controlled substances and a pistol.<\/p>\n
Byford was arrested and taken to Lemon Creek Correctional Center, and a preliminary hearing related to the case is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 31.<\/p>\n
