Juneau Police Department officers used pepper spray to apprehend and arrest a Juneau woman after police say she fought and resisted authorities responding to a report of her trespassing at Fred Meyer Friday afternoon.<\/p>\n
Shamar Ferguson, 39, was arrested on two counts of assaulting a police officer (Class C felonies), one count of resisting arrest (Class A misdemeanor), one count of criminal trespass and one count of violating conditions of release (Class B misdemeanors) on Friday at approximately 1:01 p.m. and taken to the Lemon Creek Correctional Center, according to police.<\/p>\n
The assault\/resisting arrest charges stem from allegedly fighting and resisting the officers attempting to arrest her following her reported trespassing. According to police, officers used pepper spray to apprehend Ferguson and place her under arrest. The Juneau Empire has requested body camera footage of the arrest.<\/p>\n
Police say Ferguson was out on a conditional release in an unrelated misdemeanor arrest.<\/p>\n
According to a JPD Facebook post, two of the arresting officers suffered injuries, with one receiving medical attention from Capital City Fire\/ Rescue while on scene.<\/p>\n
Ferguson had her first felony appearance in court on Saturday and currently has a preliminary hearing scheduled for 1 p.m., May 1. <\/p>\n
