One person is dead and three more are injured following a two-vehicle wreck that halted traffic in the area of a busy Mendenhall Valley intersection Wednesday evening, according to Capital City Fire\/Rescue Fire assistant chief Sam Russell.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t

The wreck occurred just past 5 p.m., according to the Juneau Police Department,<\/a> and involved a blue Toyota Corolla, driven by an 18-year-old woman with a 15-year-old boy passenger, and a white Ford truck with the driver and two occupants. Juneau Police Department did not provide the genders or ages of the truck’s occupants. Upon arriving at the scene, police say the truck was found lodged against a traffic pole with the three occupants entrapped inside the vehicle.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t

Russell said CCFR was able to extricate the driver and one passenger of the truck, and both were transported to Bartlett Regional Hospital in critical condition. The third occupant of the truck died at the scene. Police say the 15-year-old passenger of the Corolla was also transported to the hospital in critical condition.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t

Later in the night on Wednesday, JPD asked for witnesses of the wreck to call dispatch at (907)586-0600 to provide their contact information for investigators.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t

Authorities did not release the names of any of the people involved in the wreck.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t

The much-traveled intersection continued to remained closed as of 8 p.m. while crews clean the scene, Russell told the Empire, with the firefighting and emergency response agency asking people to avoid the intersection as the scene is being investigated.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t
