Buckwheat Classic registration opens

Registration is now open for the 31st annual Buckwheat Ski Classic. The cross-country ski race will be held on March 25 on the Log Cabin Ski Trails north of Skagway and include 50K, 25K and 10K classic races as well as a 5K kids race.

This year’s race will feature Dr. Seuss-themed aid station and race shirts. A best costume wward will be presented after the event based on the theme: “Oh, the Places You’ll Ski!” The prize will be a tour package to Skagway’s Upper Dewey Lake cabin.

The race is a fundraiser for Log Cabin Ski Society, which maintains the ski trails all winter with equipment and about 150 volunteers during race week. A record 449 skiers registered last year.

Register online at http://www.buckwheatskiclassic.com. There is a discount for registering before the end of February; fees will go up in March. Print registration forms and membership applications can also be found at Foggy Mountain Outfitters. Print forms may be dropped off at the Skagway and Whitehorse locations by March 17 or mailed directly to Buckwheat Ski Classic, Box 636, Skagway, AK 99840.
