The Juneau Shambhala Center is hosting “Awakening on Film: A Festival of Buddhist Films” at the Gold Town Nickelodeon Theater Nov. 4-Dec. 2. The festival is a fundraiser for the Juneau Shambhala Center. An open house and meditation at the center, located above the theater, will follow each screening.
Shambhala Vision is rooted in the principle that every human being has a fundamental nature of basic goodness. This nature can be developed in daily life so that it radiates out to family, friends, community and society, said a press release from the center.
On Nov. 4 at 4 p.m., “Walk With Me” will be shown. It’s about Thich Nhat Hanh and Plum Village, narrated by Benedict Cumberbatch. On Nov. 18 at 4 p.m., “Dropka,” a documentary about nomadic herders on the eastern Tibetan Plateau by Yan Chun Su will be shown. On Dec. 2 at 4 p.m.,“One Mind,” a film that examines a Zen Chan monastery in China by director Edward Burger will be shown.
Suggested donation is $10-$20 per film, or $25-$35 for entire festival.
