Coppa donates $500 to Coast Guard

Recognitions for May 26, 2019.

• Coppa co-owner Marc Wheeler recently presented a check for $500 to OSC Robert Luna, head of the U.S. Coast Guard Chief Petty Officers Association in Juneau. Coppa donated $1 for every scoop and $5 from every pint sold of its custom Arctic Shield ice cream flavor this spring to CPOA.

•Maximina Saceda-Hurt, of Juneau, participated in the annual Simpson College Research and Creativity Symposium, according to a Wednesday press release from the school. The multidisciplinary event showcases outstanding student work through the presentation of papers, performances, posters and panel discussions.

• Kerstin Kimlinger McAdoo, of Juneau, was named to the spring 2019 dean’s list at the University of Cumberlands, according to a Thursday press release from the school. To be eligible for the dean’s list, students must maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5 and be in good academic standing.

• Abigail J. Lawson, of Auke Bay, graduated from Clemson University with a doctorate in Wildlife and Fisheries Biology, according to a Thursday press release from the school.

• John P. Connolly, of Juneau, a Northeastern University student majoring in biochemistry, was recently named to the dean’s list for the spring semester, according to a Friday press release from the school. To achieve the dean’s list distinction, students must carry a full program of at least four courses, have a quality point average of 3.5 or greater and carry no single grade lower than a C-minus during the course of their college career. In addition, Connolly is a member of the university honors program, which offers high caliber students the chance to further hone their studies and interests, live in special interest on-campus housing and participate in one or two honors courses each term, the release stated.
