Eaglecrest to open full mountain

Eaglecrest Ski Area is opening the entire mountain Saturday, Dec. 19 and will remain open daily until Jan. 4 with the exception of Dec. 25. Ptarmigan, Hooter and Porcupine chairlifts will be running from 9 a.m.- 3 p.m., and Black Bear will start at 9:30 a.m.

The rental, repair and retail shops, as well as the snow bus, will be operating normally for the rest of the season. Food services from Mountain Lift and the Eaglecrest Grill will serve breakfast, lunch and snacks. The upper Nordic trails will be groomed for skate and classic cross country skiing. Trail fees or Season Nordic Passes are required.

Eaglecrest’s Snowsports School will be open for group and private lessons and all ability levels. Reservations are required. For more information, call (907) 790-2000 x211.

After the skiing and riding, Eaglecrest invites the community to the Downtown Rail Jam at 4:30 p.m. at Marine Park. There will be an MC, music, light show, food, beer and wine garden, and more from local businesses.

“An early opening combined with our Downtown Rail Jam makes for an unforgettable kickoff to an Eaglecrest winter,” said general manager Matt Lillard. “This weekend will be a fantastic opportunity to get on the snow, get some Christmas shopping done, move into a locker and enjoy a one of a kind après ski event.”

Due to early season conditions, marked and unmarked hazards do exist. Everyone is urged to ski and ride with caution. The middle and west side will be signed for advanced and expert skiers and riders only.

Head to skijuneau.com for more information on Eaglecrest, and live updates can be found on Eaglecrest’s website, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter.
