On behalf of the Southeast Alaska Food Bank board of directors and our volunteers, I would like to thank the U.S. Coast Guard members for all their efforts in collecting over 1,500 pounds of much needed food.
During the busy week when the Buoy Tender Round Up was taking place the Coast Guard and its members dedicated time and for to collect and deliver it to us. This food drive came at a critical time when our food shelves were looking very empty. This very generous effort during an extremely busy week for them will allow us to continue to provide healthy and nutritious food to those families and individuals in Juneau and other communities who many need assistance for their families.
The food bank could never achieve its goal of providing healthy food for those in need without their generosity. The Coast Guard motto of Semper Paratus (Always Ready) was certainly reflected by their efforts to assist our food bank, and we are very thankful for their generosity.
Last year through the efforts of our one employee and our dedicated volunteers, the Southeast Alaska Food Bank provided over 250,000 pounds of food to local food pantries and members of the community.
