The Gastineau Humane Society held our 2nd annual “Run Fur Fun” fundraising event on April 16. We had 143 participants and $2,635 was raised to help support the work of GHS.
Sincere thanks go to our many partners and supporters: the Alaskan Brewing Company for their generous donation of beer and sunglasses for the event; the fine folks at Southeast Road Runners who assisted with race logistics, equipment and preparation; the U.S. Forest Service, Juneau Ranger District for granting a permit to use the Mendenhall Campground; our enthusiastic emcee Kevin Sellers; the very talented Art Sutch, who volunteered to take event photos; artist Pat Race who donated original artwork for our flyer; the wonderful folks at Grateful Dogs of Alaska, who sponsored a free raffle and helped immensely with the after race poop patrol; Wings Airways and the thoughtful bakers at Chilkat Treatery who generously donated prizes for a free drawing; Foodland IGA, who donated granola bars and bananas; Petco, who donated dog biscuits; as well as all of our hardworking volunteers, GHS Board members and our executive director, who worked to organize and plan this year’s event and who made sure everyone had fun.
Of course, in the end the biggest thanks goes to those who came, with or without their pets, to support GHS’s mission to promote animal welfare and prevent animal cruelty and suffering. On behalf of all the critters at GHS who can’t speak for themselves, we thank you and hope to see you again next year.
