Bartlett Regional Hospital recently announced the first recipients of the Fireweed Award for their exceptional care and service to the community.

In July, the hospital invited community members and staff to nominate an employee for the award, according to the hospital. In total, 71 nominations were submitted for the quarter and four employees were randomly selected for hospital wide recognition:

— Laura McDermott and Hannah Marko are obstetrics nurses who were nominated by a patient for their encouragement and support to her as a first-time mother. In addition to providing physical and emotional support, McDermott and Marko “honored and advocated for me in a way every patient would hope for.”

— Gina Heffern is a pharmacist who was nominated by a colleague for her thorough work ethic and wonderful disposition. Gina is an “amazing resource for the infusion therapy nurses and goes above and beyond to ensure the best possible care for the patients.”

— Gretchen Glaspy is a clinical informatics pharmacist who was nominated by a colleague for her ability to prioritize high yield projects while providing supreme patient care. Gretchen “has been an absolute rock star this year despite a host of challenges.”

A celebration event was held last month on campus. Each recipient received a recognition pin, a gift card courtesy of the BRH Foundation and a designated parking spot for the quarter.
