Southeast students selected to Senate program
Two Alaska students —each hailing from Southeast Alaska —were named as delegates representing the state at the 60th annual U.S. Senate Youth Program.
The two delegates selected are Adelaide Poulson, a senior at Sitka High School, and Braxton Zink, a senior at Ketchikan High School, according to the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development.
Tahlia Gerger of Juneau and Leiah Kittams of Petersburg were selected as alternates, according to DEED.
“Congratulations to Adelaide, Braxton, Leiah, and Tahlia,” said DEED Commissioner Michael Johnson, in a news rekease. “Their selection to the U.S. Senate Youth Program recognizes their commitment to academic excellence and community service. We are thankful for this opportunity which will continue developing their leadership skills.”
The program is scheduled to be held virtually March 6-9.
During the program week, the student delegates will attend online meetings and briefings with senators, the president, a justice of the Supreme Court, leaders of cabinet agencies, and senior members of the national media, among others.
Local student earns academic honors
Thomasina Andersen of Juneau was named to Southern New Hampshire University’s fall 2021 president’s list, the university recently announced.
To be named to the list, full-time undergraduate students must maintain a GPA of 3.7 or better, according to SNHU.
