• Juneau’s Litter Free, Inc. received the Outstanding Youth Litter Patrol award for exemplary efforts to support and operate the Alaskans For Litter Prevention and Recycling in the city since 1985.
In 2018, Litter Free, Inc. funded litter patrol cleanups by 24 youth organizations and sports teams whose youth earned over $17,000 for their fundraising projects, according to a press release.
• Adrianne Schwartz of the Juneau School District has won the 2019 Northwest Regional Director of the Year Award, the School Nutrition Association announced.
The award recognizes the extraordinary contributions of school nutrition directors who manage effective school meal programs, providing healthy, appetizing meals to students.
Schwartz, along with five other regional director award winners, will be honored during a ceremony at the association’s 73rd Annual National Conference in St. Louis, Missouri in July.
• Nicole Bowers, of Juneau, received her Child Development Associate credential, the Association for the Education of Young Children Southeast Alaska announced.
Bowers, who works at Aurora Lights Child Care Center as an infant toddler teacher, is the first teacher to receive this credential through a partnership with Tlingit and Haida Child Care Assistance program, AEYC-SEA and the Association of Alaska School Boards STEPS Grant.
• Alaska West Express received the 2018 Alaska Safe Truck Fleet of the Year Award from the Alaska Trucking Association at its annual meeting in April, according to a press release.
The carrier was recognized for its safety performance in 2018, including accident frequency rates, compliance, safety and accountability scores, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration recordable injuries.
• Austin Land, of Juneau, graduated from Cedarville University in Cedarville, Ohio with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering during the 123rd annual commencement on May 4.
