The Juneau Douglas High School Drama Department will present the family comedy “Meet Me in St. Louis” one weekend only, Oct. 15, 16 and 17 at 7 p.m. and Oct. 17 at 2 p.m. in the JDHS Auditorium.

Their production will be the non-musical version adapted from the novel written by Sally Benson. However, classic musical numbers will be performed between the three acts of the play by JDHS students Katie Bachman, Czariel Armstrong, and Keely Ewing.

The play tells the story of four sisters who are preparing to attend the World’s Fair in St. Louis, where they live. The girls are also preoccupied with the love life of their only brother, whom they suspect of ditching his hometown girl for a snob from the East. In the midst of this, their father breaks in with an announcement: He’s been offered a better job in New York. Relocation would mean leaving their home in St. Louis — and missing the fair. At this, the girls unite for action.

Directed by Michaela Moore, the play features performances by JDHS students Malcolm Lumba, Mirriam Meredith, Lydia Smith, Suzanne Nierra, Lily Deitz, Molly York, Josh Rivers, Allena Valentine, Lily Goebel, Jasmine Stanturf, Valerie Cummins, Hunter Hill, Marcellin Niset, Clare Boily, Jared Vance and Quinn Gentili.

The set was created by the cast, along with Bo Anderson, who helped to build periodesque walls. The stage manager is Emily Schnitzius and the set wrangler is Gavin Oxman.
