Juneau student earns Sons of Norway scholarship

Svalbard Lodge of the Sons of Norway, Juneau, recently announced it has given a $1,000 scholarship to Annika Schwartz, who graduated this spring from Juneau-Douglas High School. Annika has left for Alta Folkehogskole in Norway for the 2022-23 school year. Folkehogskoles are year-long Norwegian boarding schools designed for students between high school and college that focus on experiential learning. All classes are in Norwegian and she will be living in small dorms with Norwegian students. While at Alta, Annika will continue to Nordic ski and will be hiking, canoeing and camping through northern Norway and Svalbard, learning about and connecting with her heritage.

Juneau student earns honors at Fort Lewis College

Kaiden Ward from Juneau was named to Fort Lewis College’s dean’s list for the spring semester, the college announced.

To be eligible for dean’s list, a student must carry a semester GPA of 3.6 or better in no fewer than 15 credit hours of graded college-level work and have completed all work for which they are registered by the end of the semester, according to the college.

Juneau student earns honors at Tufts University

Tufts University student Adelie McMillan from Juneau was named to the dean’s list for the spring semester, the university announced.

Students must earn a grade point average of 3.4 or greater for the semester, according to the university.

Juneau student earns honors University of Maryland Global Campus

Michael Santiago of Juneau was named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at University of Maryland Global Campus, the university announced. To be eligible for the honor, a student must complete at least six credits during the term, earned a grade point average of at least 3.5 for the term, and maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.5 at UMGC, according to the university.
