Sister Cities Committee thanks those involved in celebrations

Juneau Sister Cities Committee would like to thank the community of Juneau for the support and welcome they gave to the visiting Royal Canadian Mounted Police and Mayor Curtis of Whitehorse. The RCMPs and the Mayor felt very honored to be invited by Mayor Koelsch to march in Juneau’s Fourth of July Parade. Juneau’s Police Department had marched in the Canada Day Parade in Whitehorse on July 1. Chief Johnson, Mayor Koelsch and members of the Sister Cities Committee met the

Whitehorse delegation at the airport and JPD escorted the RCMP to prepare for marching which includes getting into their resplendent uniforms. The Alaskan Brewing Company, Taku Fisheries and the Alaska Fudge Company donated welcome gifts that were given to the group. Bob Hannon drove Mayor Curtis in his red Corvette in the parade. Mayor Curtis exclaimed that he thought it was the most elegant car he had ever been in. The Fourth of July Parade Committee presented the marching group with a lovely plaque that is now displayed in the city offices in Whitehorse. As the RCMPs, Mayor Curtis and the Sister Cities Committee marched through the downtown of Juneau, the crowds were extremely welcoming. “Oh, Canada” was sung by several small groups and resounding cheers rose from the crowd as we marched by. Thank you Juneau for once again showing your support for our Canadian Sister City, Whitehorse.
