Southeast Alaska literary journal seeks submissions

Are you an artist, photographer, or writer who lives in Southeast Alaska? If so, consider submitting your creative work to Tidal Echoes, Southeast’s literary and arts journal. It is edited and published in Juneau annually by a team of UAS students and faculty.

This is an exciting year for the journal as it is both the 15th anniversary of publication for Tidal Echoes and the 10th anniversary of Professor Emily Wall as the faculty advisor for the journal. The journal itself has come a long way from its first publication in 2004, when it only accepted work from university students.

The Tidal Echoes team strives to have work that shows the many voices of Southeast Alaska on every page. All we require is that you be a full-time resident of the Southeast region to be considered eligible for consideration.

Tidal Echoes has three types of submission categories: prose, poetry, and artwork.

For prose, we take up to three double-spaced pieces of up to 10 pages. Partial pieces will be considered, but they must be able to work as stand-alone pieces.

Submit up to five poems. We will preserve the format you submit these pieces in as we value your artistic choices.

For art, submit up to five pieces. They can be paintings, drawings, mixed media, photography, and photos of your ceramics. The artwork must be saved and submitted as a .tif or .jpeg and be 1800 pixels wide or more. We ask that when you submit your artwork you include the title of each piece and the medium used.

The 2017 submission deadline is Dec. 1. We hope you will mark your calendars! Even if you don’t submit, consider coming to our launch party on April 14, 2017. It’s a fun and free event that celebrates all the writers and artists who make this journal possible. There’s free food, readings from a few of the writers, and Q&A sessions with the featured artist and writer.
