Southeast Alaska Master Gardeners: Thanks Safeway

The Southeast Alaska Master Gardeners would like to thank Dawn Wheeler, Juneau Manager of Safeway, Inc. for allowing us to use a portion of the Safeway parking lot again this year for the Juneau Community Super Plant Sale. Also thanks to KINY/KSUP, KTOO, Cooperative Extension Service, the Juneau Empire and those who posted flIers to help get the word out to the community.

It takes a lot of organizations to make the Super Plant Sale a success. Thanks to the vendors who contributed a portion of their proceeds to the sponsoring organizations for continuing service programs in our community. Vendors include Ed’s Edible Landscape, Landscape Alaska, Alaska Heart Designs, Sunrise Inspirations, Game Creek Construction, Maria Preston and Alea Oien. The following organizations sponsor the plant sale on a rotational basis; Juneau Community Gardens, Juneau 4-H, Southeast Alaska Master Gardeners, Juneau Garden Club and Friends of Jensen-Olson Arboretum.

Thanks to all of the above businesses and organizations, shoppers were able to choose from a wide variety of plants, including bare-root trees, greenhouse grown tomatoes, vegetable and flower seedlings and many locally grown and hardy perennials.

The plant sale would not have been successful without all the individuals who dug, divided and potted plants to share. Last but not least, thanks to the public who purchased plants and sought answers to their gardening questions.

We hope to see everyone next year on the Saturday preceding Mothers’ Day. Contact the Friends of Jenson-Olsen Arboretum at friendsjoarboretum.org/ for more information about the 2017 Super Plant Sale. Check out the seak_mastergardeners.org website or the Juneau cooperative exchange office uaf.edu/ces/districts/juneau to find out more about gardening in Juneau.
