Thank you for wearing blue

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, and during this time, communities are out and about raising awareness on the issue of abuse and neglect of children in partnership with Alaska Children’s Trust.

Recently Juneau hosted two events on Friday, April 1, asking the Juneau community to speak up for children. We would like to thank the collaborated efforts of Rep. Garen Tarr, Rep. Ivy Sponholz and Commissioner Valerie Davidson for their Capitol steps awareness rally that helped gather numerous community members in advocacy of Child Abuse and Neglect.

Added appreciation is extended to the all the participants that helped at out at the GO BLUE Awareness Tent hosted on the front lawn of the Juneau Arts & Culture Center: The Girl Scout Cadet Troop #4027 and troop leader Mandy Mallott, Mark Wheeler of Copa Café for his “Go-Blue” Berry Ice-cream donation and the staff at the Association for the Education of Children (AEYC-SEA). The tent event drew in additional community members who received awareness and education information about Speaking Up for Children and prevention opportunities to strengthen families and prevent child abuse and neglect.

For more information about building protective factors see the Alaska Children’s Trust website at www.alaskachildrenstrust.org or www.southeastfamilies.org.
