On Wednesday Sept. 27, the Alaska National Guard Counterdrug Support Program conducted a very successful food drive at Super Bear IGA and Foodland IGA. This food drive yielded 2,576 pounds of canned goods, plus several hundred dollars of cash donations.
On behalf of the Southeast Alaska Food Bank board of directors and our volunteers, we would like to thank 1st Lt. Kimberly Conkling, SMSgt Bryan Morberg, 1SG Russell Throckmorton, SFC Diane Singh, SSG Joyce Dean, SSG Oliver Meza, SSG Todd Petersen, TSgt. Cynthia Grosshuesch, Sgt. Elijah Gutierrez, Sgt. Kevin Ronchetti, SSgt. Jessikah Cordell, SSgt. Eric Guzman, and SSgt. D’Neko Mason of the Alaska National Guard Counterdrug Support Program, as well as SSG Mac McGonigal of the 297th Military Police Company, Jim Wilcox Sr., and Cecelia Wilcox for all their help soliciting donations at the store and offloading , weighing and stocking these donations at the food bank.
These donations will allow us to continue our work of providing help to those families and individuals who otherwise might not be able to access much needed food.
Last year, through the efforts of our one employee and our dedicated volunteers, the Southeast Alaska Food Bank provided over 313,000 pounds of food to local food pantries, nonprofit organizations, and members of the community. With the recent expansion of our facility, we are now able to maintain much larger inventory of food, and we are now even better positioned to serve our community.
The goal of the Southeast Alaska Food Bank is to continue to make a difference in the quality of life for those who need help in providing food their families in times of need. These donations will help us continue to provide healthy and nutritious food for those in our community who need assistance, and your continued support is sincerely appreciated.
