Thank you Juneau for displaying my Seward statue

Thank You letters for May 26, 2019.

• My good friends from Juneau, Joanne and Bob Bloom, sent me a copy of the Empire with the picture of myself and the statue of William Seward in the background, taken at the unveiling on July 3, 2017. I hadn’t seen it yet.

I am feeling so much gratitude to the paper, to the committee that chose my sister and I, to the Seward descendants who traveled great distances to attend, to former Lt. Gov. Byron Mallott, U.S. Rep. Don Young, former Juneau Mayor Ken Koelsch, University of Alaska Anchorage professor Stephen Haycox and to all the citizens of Juneau who attended the ceremony.

My sister Judy was an equal partner in this monumental effort and I couldn’t have done it without her. She is an incredible artist.

I forgot to acknowledge someone very important to me and my family when the chance to do so was given at the ceremony at the Juneau-Douglas City Museum: my son-in-law Brian Wallin.

Juneau, I hope you are happy with our work. On behalf of Judy and I, thank you.

David Rubin
