Thank you letters for July 21, 2019

We thank SEAGLA for our Lifetime Achievement Award for services to the LGBTQ community. We thank all who contributed and attended the Pride Picnic for our award presentation. And we thank Ben Hohenstatt, Michael Penn and the Juneau Empire for coverage of our award. We accept this honor only with recognition of all the hearts, minds and hands that joined ours over all these years to strive for equality. And with recognition of those who have gone before us, on whose shoulders we stand. We invite all the community of Juneau to take up our cause and insist that LGBTQ people have equal protection under the law in our state and in our United States and in our world. Please contact all state and federal legislators and demand this. There is no excuse for one group to be singled out and not given the same rights given to everyone else.

It is only with infinite gratitude that we can accept this award, and with this plea for your help in finally having liberty and justice for all.

Lin Davis and Maureen “Mo” Longworth

I wanted to express my sincere thanks and appreciation to everyone who participated in the Juneau Gold Club scramble tournament held June 22 at the Mendenhall Golf Course. Fifty-six golfers competed in four different flights and then participated in an awards luncheon at Bullwinkle’s Pizza Parlor immediately following the tournament. I especially want to thank the following local sponsors whose generous contributions helped make this event a rousing success: The Juneau Gold Club, Bullwinkle’s Pizza Parlor, Mendenhall Gold, RE/Max of Juneau, McGiveney’s, Jerry’s Meats and Seafoods, Nugget Alaskan Outfitter, Wings Airways Taku Glacier Lodge, Alaska Commercial Contractors Inc., Baxter Bruce & Sullivan P.C., and Jack’s Plumbing & Heating Inc.

Greg Winegar,

President of the Juneau Golf Club and tournament director

The Juneau Lions Club joined efforts to clean up the Juneau Indian Village in May and June. We would like to especially give a “shout-out” of thanks and appreciation to the following organizations for their generous time, energy and financial support in this effort:

Central Council Tlingit & Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska, Tribal Transportation Department; Juneau Tlingit & Haida Community Council; Mendenhall Flying Lions volunteer; Juneau Lions Club volunteers; Huskies Football Team volunteers; and Juneau Indian Village residents.

It was truly an effort that took everyone to make it successful. Thank you!

Janice Hotch,

Cleanup Project Coordinator, Juneau Lions Club

Many thanks to all those who supported the Lights for Liberty vigil on July 12th. Your generosity of time, spirit and donations was humbling. In total 163 signatures were collected on the letter to our Congress-members and $1,032 was donated and has been given to RAICES. Thank you to our presenters Jesse Kiehl, Martin Stepetin Sr., Renee Daniels, Libby Bakalar, and Emily Mesch and Jesse Gordon for your inspiring words and music. Thank you also to my co-organizers Karla Hart, Catherine Hatch and Justin Parish.

The compassion and concern shown by the Juneau community was and is a bright light on often dark times. Thank you all.

Trish Turner Custard,

Juneau
