Thank you to SERRC-TLC Volunteers

The Learning Connection, a program of Southeast Regional Resource Center, provides adult education services in Juneau and throughout southeast Alaska. Many of our adult students visit our learning center during the day to attend class or work individually with an instructor. However, others are often unable to take advantage of our courses or tutoring due to work scheduling conflicts, limited child care, transportation challenges, and more.

Fortunately, we have a cadre of over 20 local community volunteers who donate their time to meet with adult learners in the evening, on the weekend, during their lunch break, and more! This flexibility provides access for countless students around our community. This year, our volunteers dedicated over 340 hours to supporting adult learners in Juneau and we are extremely grateful for their tireless efforts!

We hope they have a restful summer, and we look forward to seeing them again in the fall!

Jackie Wood, Ed.D,

Adult Education Program Manager for SERRC.

Thank you neighbors and responders

My husband and I would like to thank our neighbors and first responders for rescuing our visitors from Mendenhall Lake. They had taken our canoe out on the lake and had tipped over. I got a frantic call on my phone and got down there ASAP. By the time I got there 911 had been called, they were being rescued by two paddleboarders and a kayak. People were on the beach ready with blankets and the CCFR showed up right then. Our friends were quite shaken but OK. If we had been the only ones there it would have taken many more minutes for them to be rescued and they might not have been OK.

Thank you,

Ken and Ann Mattson
