Thank you letters for Sept. 16, 2018

• I would like to thank CBJ for remodeling the Pipeline Skate Park’s roof. This has had small leaks for a few years. I know all the participants will be happy as fall and winter comes.

Also, Thanks for Colby Shibler at Parks and Recreation for communicating with the users and helping with projects that have come up in the last few years. We are all lucky to live in a city that has a covered skate park and community puts so many platforms for our youth.

Juneau

• The Rise for Climate Rally on Sept. 8 was a rousing success. The organizing committee would like to thank everyone who “showed up” for climate. We are so very grateful to Yees Ku.oo – Shu Gyad for bringing beautiful song, dance and heartbeat to the event. Thanks also to Heritage coffee for the generous coffee donation to get us going. Thanks to Sonia Nagorski, for an excellent Empire column about the event and the science behind the crisis. Thanks to SEACC for giving us space and supplies for sign making. Thanks to Art Sutch for his enthusiastic photography. Thanks to Rainbow Foods for kindly providing EV parking and to the EV owners for shuttling folks. Thanks to Andy Romanoff for working and reworking the Rise for Climate poster. To Linda Buckley, gratitude for always having the perfect song tucked up her sleeve.

We also appreciate the speakers who shared their inspirational thoughts on this climate emergency: David Abad, from Renewable Juneau, Elaine Schroeder from 350Juneau, Carolyn Malseed and Stuart Cohen from Interfaith Power and Light, Heather Evoy from SEACC, and Jim Powell from the UAS Sustainability Committee. To Dr. Don Woebbles from the University of Illinois, sincere thanks for bringing his expertise to the rally and changing his travel plans to be able to participate as the keynote speaker.

Finally, thanks to everyone who helped to plan this event and for caring so deeply about the health of our planet.

Suzanne Cohen,

350Juneau
