Thank you letters for Sept. 22, 2019

Thank you, Merci, Danke.

The Bowhay family would like to thank all of you for the wonderful explosion of love and caring we have received from the whole community. The Juneau Empire has been so generous and created such a beautiful tribute to Cindy, that we are forever grateful thank you so much. Kiny radio, The Hanger and you showed us you loved Cindy as much as we do. We have received so many cards, with the kindest words, it is all so overwhelming. But at her Celebration of Life service on Saturday with many, many hundreds of you attending, it was truly heavenly. Thank you all so, so much for sending our angel Cindy home with a standing ovation. I am sure she was received in heaven with an angelic standing ovation. Amen.

Steve Bowhay and family,

Juneau

I am writing to thank U.S. Sens. Lisa Murkowski and Dan Sullivan and staff from Rep. Don Young’s office for meeting with me and with other advocates last week in Washington, D.C. to discuss federal Parkinson’s research funding and access to quality care. I urge our elected officials to provide access to mental health care for people with Parkinson’s, and to support an out-of-pocket prescription drug cap for Medicare Part D. People with Parkinson’s rely on lawmakers to do what’s right to ensure we have access to care and the medications we need to be able to function every day.

I also encourage them to continue to increase funding for research toward a cure for Parkinson’s. More than 1,800 people in Alaska are estimated to have this disease, and Parkinson’s costs our country $52 billion every year to treat. A cure would help relieve the burden on Medicare, Social Security and the families across America who help care for the 1 million people with Parkinson’s disease nationwide.
