Thank you for making Shop With a Cop a success

The Capital City Chapter of the Alaska Peace Officers Association would like to warmly thank the community of Juneau, our generous donors, and our partner law enforcement agencies for a successful 2020 Shop With a Cop program. About 40 officers and many other volunteers were able to serve about 60 kids within 23 families to provide a positive interaction and holiday joy. A special thanks to Michael, Daved, Ryan, and Pam at Fred Meyer who helped facilitate a 20% discount on purchases and in providing a bag of groceries for each family. Another special thanks to JOANN Fabrics for donations to the AWARE gift bags. Monetary donors included the following:

Southeast Mine Supply, LCCC, True North Federal Credit Union, Coeur Alaska Kensington Mine, Heckla Green’s Creek Mine, Anonymous, Behrends Mechanical, Douglas Volunteer Fire Department, Elks Lodge #420, Teri & Shaun Kuzakin Family, Alaska Correctional Officers Association, Frank & Mallory Reid, Fraternal Order of Alaska State Troopers, Inc., Craig Police Department, Mike & Nancy Norton, Anonymous, Derek & Meghan Johnson, TSA Employees, Frederick Dugdale, Timothy & Luann Powers, Jason & Charlene Morrison Living Trust, Kevin Poole, Wendy Hughes and Kris Cole in memory of Chuck Freymueller, Gary & Greta Schauer, Jennifer A. Thank you for vaccine event

I am deeply grateful to the city, hospital staff, nurses, and volunteers who conducted a wonderful COVID inoculation event this weekend at Centennial Hall. It was well organized, efficient, and kind. Registration online a week earlier was smooth, and rapidly filled up. We were given clear instructions to arrive within five minutes of appointment time and wait in our cars. When they were ready for us, a text message saying, “It’s your turn!” dinged on my phone. The group gathered politely and socially distanced at the entrance where volunteers greeted us and guided us up the steps. Check in was quick, volunteers were positioned along the clearly marked route to several distanced inoculation stations where a quick prick in the arm administered the vaccine. Quiet, kind words were spoken at each place. Then we moved to another station for follow up, then into a larger space with chairs safely distanced for a resting wait while being monitored by CCFR personnel ready to assist if any of us had a reaction. A giant digital clock ticked off the minutes. We each were given a sticker with the expiration time when our possible reaction had passed. Volunteers with iPads offered help to those needing to book their second shots via a QR code listed on a handout.

The atmosphere among the recipients was a blend of historic recognition of their role in the milestone of ending the epidemic, plus relief, anxiety, gratitude, humility, and a silent admission of our own sense of mortality that the virus has caused in older people. Yet everyone offered gentle kindness and help.

So many people made this weekend vaccine event run smoothly. I thank each and every one of you who made it possible. I wish for all citizens to have the same experience as more vaccines become available.

Laurie Craig,

Juneau

Thank you for the donations

Love INC Juneau would like to thank the Black Awareness Association for the amazing donations of food, diapers, and personal care items we received from the MLK Day of Service Food & Diaper Drive. There were dozens of boxes of cereal, jars of peanut butter, jelly and jam; many large boxes of diapers, paper towels, toilet paper and numerous other useful items. The Black Awareness Association has been donating to Love INC for several years now, so we knew this year’s donation would be generous, as it always has been, but this was really something special- It took 6 carloads to move!

We would like to extend a heartfelt Thank you! to Sherry Patterson and the Black Awareness Association team, Marc Wheeler and the Coppa team, and everyone involved in this year’s donation to Love INC, which we believe is the single largest donation to our food and personal care ministries we have ever received! We are very grateful for these items, which will go to our neighbors in need. Thank you for showing love to us and our clients and for helping us help others.

Guy Crockroft,

Executive Director Love INC Juneau
