Thank-yous

Thank you for showing appreciation to caregivers

NAMI Juneau, Juneau Suicide Prevention Coalition and Heritage Coffee would like to thank the Juneau community for showing their appreciation for our community caregivers — “any individual who offers their courage, strength, and self-sacrifice in service to others.” Sixty caregivers were nominated through the Care for Caregivers event to be recognized for their exemplary service and the positive ways they impact individual lives and our community.

Staff receiving the nominations were moved by the breadth of caregivers being nominated in Juneau — educators and school counselors; medical providers; employees and volunteers providing COVID related support, support for unhoused populations, elders, youth and community leadership — and even care for our city streets. Co-workers, foster parents and other family members were also recognized. One youth had this to say about her mother:

“In these very difficult times, my mom has given me the strength to challenge myself every day and push through whatever obstacle I may face. There’s never a time she isn’t doing something to help our family in some way. She is a very hardworking, loving, and gentle person that deserves all the recognition in the world.”

We would also like to recognize the people who submitted the nominations. Caregivers are a special breed that go about their service not for recognition, but because they care, and your appreciation makes a difference.

The Care for Caregivers event was initiated by a broader conversation of caregivers and frontline workers experiencing chronic stress and trauma which has been compounded by the stress of COVID-19. For many of our community caregivers, the pandemic has taken a toll on their mental wellness. If you’re struggling, know you are not alone.
