On Nov. 18, the Southeast Alaska Food Bank conducted what turned out to be our largest food drive in history.
That Day, Super Bear IGA and Foodland IGA, in conjunction with the Juneau Radio Center, hosted the annual Sharing is Caring food drive, where an unprecedented 26,000 pounds of food was raised to benefit the Southeast Alaska Food Bank, our member agencies and the individuals whom we serve.
Coordinating an event of the nature and of this large magnitude was no small feat, and we would like to thank everyone who was involved with it in any way.
We would like to especially thank everyone at both Super Bear IGA and Foodland IGA for once again hosting this annual event, as well as the management and staff at both stores for accommodating us throughout the day.
We would like to thank everyone at the Juneau Radio Center for promoting and participating in this event again this year, as well as all of the special guests who went on the air throughout the day to talk about the importance of supporting the food bank.
We’d like to thank the small army of volunteers who worked tirelessly throughout the day at both stores to solicit donations, collect, sort and weigh food donations, and load these donations into the school buses that were at each store.
We’d like to thank First Student Location Manager Kevin Hansen for working all day at Foodland IGA, and for once again donating their school buses to us for the day so that we could transport all of the food that was collected back to the food bank.
We’d like to thank all of the volunteers who came to the Southeast Alaska Food Bank the next day to help us unload these donations, and who made short work of off-loading 13 tons of food.
And last but not least, we would like to thank everyone whose donations of food or money helped make this year’s Sharing is Caring food drive as successful as it was.
Thank you again, Juneau! Because of your continued generosity and support, our shelves are now full and the Southeast Alaska Food Bank is better able to provide nutritious food options for those who are most at risk of going hungry in our community.
