Woosh Kinaadeiyí Open Mic, 6:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20, Mendenhall Valley Public Library, 3025 Dimond Park Loop. The event will be hosted by Dee Jay DeRego, with the Woosh Kinaadeiyí Band. Tlingit Language and Arts Program, 1–4 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 21, Zach Gordon Youth Center. The Zach Gordon Youth Center is hosting a Tlingit Language and Arts Program on Saturdays for 5 weeks in November and December. The program is sponsored by the Goldbelt Heritage Foundation, and taught by Paul Marks and other Tlingit elders. The program is free and open to any and all who are interested! (Though children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult). Register by calling the Zach Gordon Youth Center at (907) 586-2635.

THEATER

“Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street,” 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and 4 p.m. Sunday through Dec. 6, Perseverance Theatre. Sweeney Todd, a Tony-award-winning musical, tells the story of Benjamin Barker, a London-based barber armed with a sharp, straight razor, who teams up with a local pie-maker.

 

Letters Aloud, 7–9 p.m., Tuesdau, Nov. 24, Centennial Hall. A group of professional actors will read the private letters of the famous and not-so-famous live on stage; letter writers include Stephen King, Andy Warhol, Elvis Presley, Emily Dickinson, Bruce Lee, Marilyn Monroe and Tom Hanks. Tickets may be purchased at the JACC, Hearthside Books and at www.jahc.org. This is a 21+ event. Details: www.jahc.org.

Ski Film Bar Night, 7–10 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 18, Louie’s Douglas Inn. Ski Film Bar Night is an eight-week event series, starting Sept. 30. Free. Details: https://www.facebook.com/events/1650174015261727/

 

SNOvember Film Series, 7 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 18, Gold Town Nickelodeon. The SNOvember Film Series celebrates the coming winter season by showcasing the year’s best ski and snowboard films. All of the proceeds go towards building a cabin and trail at Cropley Lake through the Eaglecrest Foundation. Tickets $10 at the door. Details: goldtownnick.com

 

Evening at Egan: Haa Yoo X’atangi Kax Kulagaawu, 7-8:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 20, Egan Library. With Lance (Xh’unei) Twitchell, Assistant Professor of Alaska Native Languages. A film documenting the work and lives of Richard and Nora Dauenhauer and celebrating Tlingit language revitalization.

 

Climate Action Film Series: “The Yes Men Are Revolting,” 4:30 p.m., Saturday Nov. 21, Gold Town Theatre. This film follows two comic activists who stage media hoaxes and political pranking to expose corporate crimes around global warming. Sponsored by Alaska Climate Action Network. Wild and Scenic Film Festival, 6–8:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 21, JACC. A benefit event for the Juneau Watershed Partnership and SE Alaska Watershed Coalition, the Wild and Scenic Film Festival presents a series of environmental and outdoor adventure films. 6 p.m. films for kids; 8 p.m. for all ages
