‘Wrestling Jerusalem’ explores Israeli-Palestinian conflict

Set in America, Israel, and Palestine, “Wrestling Jerusalem,” coming to Juneau March 3-6, follows one man’s journey to understand the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Actor Aaron Davidman’s solo performance is a personal story that grapples with the complexities of identity, history, and social justice. While giving voice to over a dozen different characters, the play sheds light on one of the most entrenched conflicts of our time.

The production runs from March 3 – 6, 2016, at the Juneau Arts and Culture Center. Tickets are available now at Hearthside Books, the Juneau Arts and Humanities Council and online at PTalaska.org, or by calling 907-463-TIXS (8497).

Aaron Davidman, who both wrote the play and is its solo performer, is a playwright, actor, director and producer. He is drawn to stories of ethnic history and cultural complexity that challenge our assumptions of the “other.” Aaron served as Artistic Director of Traveling Jewish Theatre from 2002-2011. Among many works at TJT he conceived, co-wrote and directed the international collaboration “Blood Relative” about the Israeli- Palestinian story, co-wrote and performed in “God’s Donkey,” originated the role of Momik Neuman in “See Under: Love,” based on the David Grossman novel, and directed “Death of a Salesman.” Outside of TJT Aaron’s work includes directing the world premiere of “This World in a Woman’s Hands” by Marcus Gardley and the world premiere of Gardley’s “Love is a Dream House in Lorin,” both at Shotgun Players, and the world premiere of Gardley’s “The Road Weeps, The Well Runs Dry” at Perseverance Theatre in Juneau, Alaska. Congregation Sukkat Shalom, Juneau People for Peace and Justice, Northern Light United Church, and Perseverance Theatre are bringing Davidman to town.

The play runs March 3 – 6 at the JACC. Thursday and Friday, shows begin at 7:30 pm; Saturday and Sunday, they begin at 2 pm. Tickets are $25, or $20 for members of presenting organizations and subscribers to Perseverance Theatre. For ticket reservations, call the Perseverance Theatre Box Office at 907-463-TIXS (8497), go to www.perseverancetheatre.org, or pick them up at Hearthside Books or the JACC.
