Bartlett program aims to promote healthy lifestyles in 2018

Bartlett Regional Hospital has a program in place for 2018 that could help people stick to their New Year’s resolutions.

The program, called Health Matters, is part of Bartlett’s Diabetes Education program. Health Matters is geared toward people who have been diagnosed with pre-diabetes or are at risk for Type 2 diabetes, but it’s also open for people who just want to live a little healthier.

There is an informational meeting Monday from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the BRH Robert F. Valliant Administration and Business Center to answer questions and give people a look into what the program is all about.

Health Matters is a year-long commitment to eating healthier and exercising. Participants work with coaches to make changes to their lifestyle, and studies have shown that programs such as this can reduce Type 2 diabetes by up to 58 percent and up to 71 percent for those over the age of 60. Participants must be 18 or older.

Starting Jan. 9, Health Matters will be holding weekly meetings for 16 weeks and then monthly meetings for the rest of the year. Pre-registration is required. Those looking to register can contact Diabetes Patient Educator Cynthia Nickerson at 796-8649 or cnickerson@bartletthospital.org.
