The deceased person was not able to be identified immediately, Juneau Police Department Sgt. Brian Dallas said on scene at about 4:30 p.m.

“(The person) appears to be male, but we’re not sure,” Dallas said. “Right now, we’re contacting the medical examiner’s office, preparing to ship him or her up to Anchorage for an autopsy.”

JPD and Capital City Fire/Rescue Special Teams worked together to successfully remove the body from the water, located behind the home at 9010 Atlin Drive. A JPD press release states the body was found floating about 25 feet from shore, in about four feet of water in a marshy area with tall thick grass.

Authorities received the original report at about 3:45 p.m., and left the scene by about 5 p.m.

A cause of the person’s death was not immediately apparent, JPD spokesperson Erann Kalwara said in a later press release. She said also the person is believed to be an adult male.

The home’s occupants stood in their yard for a time, but declined interview requests.
