The City and Borough of Juneau is accepting proposals for head-tax funded projects in 2016.
In 1999, CBJ voters approved a tax of $5 per cruise ship passenger to compensate for the extra costs — including policing, ambulance service and water — inflicted by the cruise industry on the CBJ.
Each year, the CBJ solicits proposals for projects that use this revenue.
In fiscal year 2016, which ends June 30, 2016, the city expected the tax to raise $4.8 million. A similar amount is expected in fiscal year 2017.
Proposals are accepted at the city manager’s office from Dec. 1 through Dec. 31. For further information, contact Susan Phillips at 586-5240 or email Susan.Phillips@juneau.org.
