A new face will be taking over at the City and Borough of Juneau’s Public Works & Engineering Department.
Mike Vigue will be taking over as the new director of the department, according to a release, and he will start April. The current director, Roger Healy, is retiring at the end of April.
“After years of working for the federal government and state governments in the area of transportation infrastructure, it will be a great opportunity to bring the knowledge and expertise I have gained throughout my career to the local level,” Vigue said in the release. “I am looking forward to getting to know the great staff in the department and working with them to identify opportunities and find solutions that improve Juneau’s quality of life.”
Vigue holds a top position within the Alaska Department of Transportation as its Division of Program Development Director. In this role, he serves on DOT’s Executive Team, develops the department’s annual capital budget and oversees a team of 75. Vigue has held other positions within DOT as well as the Federal Highway Administration in Alaska and Maine.
City Manager Rorie Watt said Vigue will be a great fit for Public Works & Engineering, which handles a number of complex projects and services.
“I’m confident in his ability to work with and direct the staff in a wide-ranging and complicated department, and to communicate to the public and the Assembly,” Watt said in the release. “I’m really happy to add him and his skill set to our team.”
