Juneau police arrested a knife-wielding man at the intersection of Main Street and Egan Drive on Saturday afternoon who was protecting himself from imaginary animals.
Around 4:24 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to the scene and contacted a 52-year-old Juneau man in the midst of a “mental health emergency,” according to Sgt. Krag Campbell in a Juneau Police Department statement. JPD said the man, who has not been named, was under the influence of an unknown substance.
“The man said he was using the knife to defend himself from imaginary animals that were attacking him,” read the news release.
Officers pulled their weapons and ordered the man to drop the knife, which he did, and the man was handcuffed and taken to Bartlett Regional Hospital for evaluation. He was later admitted for treatment for mental health issues and substance abuse, according to police.
No one was injured during the incident.
