The Mendenhall Flying Lions Club will hold its annual barbecue at McGivney’s Sports Bar and Grill in the Mendenhall Mall on Saturday.
The lunch — which will include pork ribs, slaw, beans and beer from Alaskan Brewing Company — costs $15 per plate. Barbecue fans can also spend $40 for a rack of ribs. Proceeds will benefit the American Diabetes Association. The Lions Club will serve food until it runs out or until 5 p.m., whichever comes first.
During the past 20 years, the club has raised nearly $160,000 for the ADA. Those funds have helped send Southeast Alaskan youth to diabetes camp, conduct health fairs and distribute diabetes educational materials throughout the region.
